Mr. and Mrs. Investor

Dear Investor,

The third quarter is over and two important events we anticipated last spring have happened.  Number on, Karen has delivered her twins.  First-born Robert Atley weighted in at 5lb. 8oz. and his sister Sarah Elizabeth, weighed 6lb. 13oz.  Mother and children are doing find and Becky, Roger and I are looking forward to Karen’s return.

The second ongoing event is the slowing economy.    As we thought last spring the economic growth rate has slowed and this has caused many disappointing corporate earnings announcements this fall.  As a result, the market has remained volatile with many stocks falling sharply on the bad earnings news.  We continue to expect the market to bottom soon and begin a rally late this year.  We think this rally will extend well into the spring.  Based on this, we have begun the process of reinvesting the cash we raised in your portfolio this past March.

Even though we expect a stronger market later this year, we believe economic growth will remain sluggish and interest rates relatively high.  This situation may persist for the next few quarters.  Under these conditions the markets upside progress may be subdued and stock selection will become even more important than normal.  Our goal is to ensure your continuing investment success.  Working together, Karen and I have to goal of selecting investments for you, which will position your account for another market beating year in 2001.  As always our overriding investment philosophy is to maximize your returns while attempting to minimize the necessary investment risks being taken.

We want to thank you once again for your continuing patronage.  Both of us appreciate your ongoing trust and look forward to speaking with you soon.

                                                                                    Regards,

                                                                                    C. J. Brott, Jr.
