April 2011

April 6, 2011

As you know we continue to believe the reallocation trade will be the most important determinant of market direction over the next three to five years.  For the shorter term we think higher priced energy, the revival of domestic export driven manufacturing, and the growth of the wireless internet are the big trends for investment.  In order to take advantage of the export market we have invested in an industrial ETF.  To cover technology we purchased the S&P technology sector ETF.  Our energy investments are stock specific in order to capture current income along with the growth in energy infrastructure.  This month we have also purchased two stocks whose future growth is tied directly to the growth of the wireless mobile internet.  They are EMC Corp and NXP Semiconductor.

EMC is an established company in the data storage business.  It will be a prime beneficiary of the growing trend companies transitioning to the “cloud” model of computing.  NXP Semiconductor is a well established Netherland based analog/digital semiconductor company with operations in 25 countries.  It has been in the process of restructuring and refocusing its businesses for several years.  It is beginning to show results as earnings are expected to grow rapidly.  NXP has a strong presence in wireless and is a leader in “Near Field” communication, a necessary technology for wireless transactional devices.  We think both of these companies should do well as markets for their expertise develop.

We plan to watch carefully and monitor the near term news concerning the government’s finances and potential energy interruptions in the Middle East.  But short of something totally unexpected we feel confident your portfolio is set for the foreseeable future.

On another note, you will see some difference in the appearance of your portfolio report enclosed with this letter.  We have finally finished a two year long conversion process from our old portfolio software to a far more powerful system.  We will be adding information and graphics to your report as we expand our familiarity with the system.  In the process we hope to make the information we give you more informative and more graphical in content.  We hope you will find this new format appealing.

Thank you for your patronage.  Please call us with any questions or comments.
